A senior official of Patna Secretariat was shot dead this morning in his house. An under Secretary in Patna Secretariat, he was shot at by unidentified assailants who barged into his house this morning, news agency ANI reported. The official was soon taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. As per police, the assailants barged into Rajeev Kumar (50) residence around 4 am. Deputy Superintendent of Police (Sachivalay) Rajesh Singh Prabhakar told PTI that the assailants had an altercation with the official and then shot him at his government quarter, located in the R-block area under the Sachivalaya police station in Patna. Rajni, the wife of the deceased, has said attackers had come with an intention to loot and opened fire when her husband tried to resist. Rajini also said that they decamped with valuables worth Rs 30,000-40,000. We are investigating the matter from all angles. We suspect that some old enmity may also be behind the killing which the family is trying to hide, Prabakar was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. Meanwhile, a body of secretariat employees expressed anguish over the killing and demanded stern action against the culprits.
